In the north of the island, Taipei is an amazing city where traditional culture mixes with the modern world. The Chiang Kai-shek Memorial is a beautiful traditional building in the heart of the city.the heart of the capital. Its gardens are frequented from the dawn by the inhabitants of Taiwan who come for their training of tai-chi. The main memorial hall houses an impressive bronze statue – 16 m high – of the late President, Chiang Kai-Shek. The site also includes the National Theater used for Chinese operas, plays, and ballets. Further on, the Taipei 101 tower deserves a visit for its incredible bamboo-shaped architecture. It is customary to go to its panoramic platform to enjoy the stunning views of Taipei. On the cultural side, the National Palace Museum is admirable for its unique collection of Chinese masterpieces. The city abounds in numerous temples, places of prayer for the faithful. Among the most famous are the Temple of Lushuan, the oldest in the city, and the Temple of Confucius dedicated to the philosopher of the same name.
On the north coast, the beaches of Yenliao, Fulung, Green Bay and Chinshan are among the most beautiful on the island. They also offer many aquatic sports activities. The site of Yehliu is grandiose with its incredible rock formations sculpted by the sea and the erosion of the wind. The south coast is well represented at the seaside with the white sandy beaches of Kenting.
In the eastern part of the island, the Jiaushi Hot Springs near the town of Ilan is the delight of all visitors who enjoy the thermal water thanks to the pools designed for the occasion.
To the west lies the city of Lukang, famous for its handicraft center and its numerous temples. Among them, the Palace of The Empress Of Heaven and the temple of Lungshan deserve to be mentioned for their carved wooden ceilings and stone pillars shaped like dragons.
The center of the island is covered by two natural wonders, the Taroko National Park and its deep gorges, and the Yushan national Park, home to the Jade Mountain which rises to 3997 m.
Festivities
The Spring Festival takes place on the first day of the first lunar month in January and the Lantern Festival in February, the fifteenth day of the first lunar month.
The birthday and pilgrimage of Matzu, goddess of the sea, takes place on the 23rd day of the third lunar month in April.
May is characterized by the Dragon Boat ceremony, organized on the 5th day of the 5th lunar month.
The festival of Ghosts is celebrated in August, the 15th day of the 7th lunar month.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is the major event of the month of September.
Taiwan commemorates its national day on October 10.
